Hi! I’m Wesley. You might know me from somewhere, but you can’t remember. That’s ok. Usually I just tell people that I make music. And sometimes pickles or salsa. This is because they kinda cost a lot and what you get at the store is usually not that great to begin with. Also, I live in a place that almost exclusively sells pickles with sugar. And I don’t like that. If you do that’s ok with me, but I prefer a nice crispy pickle with some bite. Salsa shouldn’t taste like tomato sauce with sugar. I’m on a mission to create the perfect bowl of salsa that reminds you of classic salsa roja from a ‘hot plate’ Mexican restaurant. And for some reason, I just can’t stop making music, so I’m forced to come up with ways to share it with the world.
Within each of us there exists some innate need to create. Doesn’t matter what it is. But we yearn to make things. And that’s pretty cool isn’t it?
As a child I grew up in a musical home. Both my parents played instruments and it was common to hear music in the background. My mother plays the piano and she’d often be practicing a popular ragtime tune or a classic Beethoven piece. I have many fond memories of listening to her play. My father plays as well, and he liked to play the piano as well as the guitar. They both had some standards and then would learn new songs or sometimes experiment. I think “Heart and Soul” was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on piano. And “Sweet Home Alabama” or maybe “More than a Feeling” on guitar.
We usually had pickles around and I developed an affinity for Claussen. There’s nothing like a cold and crisp garlic dill that snaps when you bite into it. Pickles have virtually no calories either, so you can eat a lot of them without putting on the pounds or kilos. The salsa we usually had was from Pace. Now you might say that’s not real salsa. And you’d be pretty much right. It’s more of a picante sauce. But honestly it’s still pretty good, the perfect sauce for a breakfast burrito.
Are you still here? Are you reading the words on this page? If you are I’d like to thank you. It’s very kind of you.
As I get older I think of what kind of legacy I’m leaving behind. Did I make the world a better place? I’d like to think so. I hope my music brings joy to some, even after I’m gone. The world would be a mighty boring place if we didn’t fill it with things that bring us joy. And we all have to eat, so figuring out what your favorite snacks are and sharing them with your friends and family is a cool thing to do. I hope you are finding ways of creating and sharing joy with the world. We could always use more of that.
